Dear Tak,

I read your email with interest -- I've been in Ghana since June helping a K 12 school install a connection to the Internet. As of now we have 13 networked computers sharing one dialup connection to the Internet; the impact on this community -- especially the children -- is quite astounding. I've never experienced such an enthusiastic response to a computer system.

I'm using proxy technology to share the dialup connection, and it's about reached its limits. Can you point me to information regarding alternate Internet access methodologies (i.e.satellite) for African countries? And, would you know if funding or any other financial assistance would be available? We are currently in the process of setting up a non-profit corporation in the US to accept such contributions. I'm in Ghana now and just had a thought -- would any funds be available thru the Japanese Embassy in Ghana? I would be most pleased to contact anyone there whom you may suggest.

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. It's quite exciting to experience people as they see computers and the Internet for the first time, I hope to be able to expand this network significantly in the near future.

Sincerely,

Brian Rankin
